My wife's cousin bought an old one when we in Maryland a few weeks ago. It was a 5 to 6 footer, decent condition. She paid $75. for it. Too much for me even tho the shop owner said they go for a lot more. Was wondering if anyone made their own and if so how did you make it?

Scotty I would love to see the tree you bought. I don't know what a pencil tree looks like. Kay

My wife's cousin bought it and I don't have a photo of it yet. I think they're known as feather trees too. Not sure. The shop owner called it a pencil tree.

I believe it's another term for a german twig tree. I have two of them, both are six footers. I guess you could make one, but I'd have to give that some thought.

If it is the same as a feather or german twig tree, you can probably search Ebay for price comparison. I've seen both the german twig and feather trees listed on Ebay and can be pricey, but all depends on how big they are.

If it is a feather tree... you can definitely make one. I took a lesson years ago on how to make one at a little European shop in Vermont. The one I made was only 3 feet tall. They are very tricky, you have to tape the goose feathers on individually. I have seen tutorials online, so that may help you. If you find a true, old German Feather Tree you will spend a LOT of money... but there are a lot of reproductions out there too.
Good luck!

Around here (which is Maryland) a pencil tree is an artificial evergreen tree about 6 feet and it is very narrow in body (thus pencil). It is wonderful for small places-in front of a window etc. If I figure out how to post a picture I will send a picture of mine. But, don't hold your breath. Joyce Horse sense is "stable" thinking coupled with the ability to say"nay".
