I've seen alot of primaholics collect yellowware....i'm interested in possibly starting to collect redware...does anyone know where to get some that they are super expensive?

Also is there any other kind of 'ware' that is great to collect as a primitive luvr?

Kitty, I collect yellow ware.  I have never heard of red ware before.  I would love to see a picture of it.  Good luck with your new collection.  ~Dan~

Cobblestone Cottage in St. Charles, MO has the reproduction redware.  I went to their website:

http://stores.cobblestonesaintcharles.com/Categories.bok?category=Redware

You can order from them.  I really think they have more in the store than what I am seeing on this site, however.

Here is an example:

Did you really have to show a link CIndy? You know how bad i want that stuff. Just kidding. I really liked some of it. But a little pricey. I would like to find the real deal for some   of them. I never have seen red pottery at auctions or sales.

Redware is very well known to folks on the east coast, but it's slow to make it's way here. You may be able to find some reproduction pieces in some of the primitive stores, but most likely it would be online.

Ironstone has been a timeless collectible for many folks. There are some bowls that have the blue or red stripes around them, again usually repros.

Try doing a google search and see what you come up with.

Kitty, check out my redware in last month's issue of CS. I love redware also. Most of mine is Wisconsin Pottery, some David Eldreth. I also collect blue and white stoneware, mostly Rowe, Beaumont Brothers and some other makers. I also collect antique pewter, yelloware bowls, and blue banded bowls. So many things to collect, baskets, quilts, firkins, brown stoneware, coverlets, graniteware, candle molds. wooden bowls, and early lighting. I am always adding to my collections, and starting new ones. Good luck!

Thanks Scrappy for the link...I'll check it out....in my post I put "does anyone know where to get some that they are super expensive?" I meand to say NOT super expensive!  Neicie also thank you, I will check out the CS you mention.  I did alot of searches, but every place I found on the internet is really expensive, I would not mind collecting reproduction ones either if the prices are better.  thanks all for you ideas...if anyone has more, please share! happy

I love the redware, too, but it can get pricey.  So I am settling with reproductions when I can find ones that I like.  Dan, would love to see some of your yellowware pieces.

Hi, I too love redware / slipware and sgraffito.  My favorite potters are - Lester Breininger, Wisconsin Pottery (Joel Huntley) and Turtlecreek Pottery - various potters.  Also love Greg Shooner's work, but unfortunately way out of my price range.  I have been lucky to find several pieces on Ebay (7 so far) to add to my collection, but it's always hit or miss. Hope this helps!

Prg, I agree with you, I love all those potters. They use to advertize in Early American Life. I have pieces by some of those potters.

Neicie,  I subscribe to that magazine and it is where I first noticed these beautiful items. My first piece was a fluted bowl by Lester Breininger which I purchased from his catalog.  Not sure if that is still available.

Thanks Punky! I don't know, so many of the Redware looks 'brown' to me...I like the ones that actually have more red in them....hmmmm...not sure what I will do!

Denise,  I am new to this blog...went through the comments again and realized that your beautiful home was part of a recent CS.  Interesting, I have recently started to purchase several Pewter pieces - love Gorham's Octette pattern, but I don't consider them antiques.  As for yelloware - I inherited my Nana's 6 blue band bowl, which OH broke several years ago.  It just had to be put back together and is now out of harm's way although damage is done.  Found a companion piece that measures 6" across and am so happy with this. Some day I will add my Redware collection for viewing.

Regards,

Peggy

I love redware.  Ned Foltz makes beautiful redware!!!  Expensive though, about $135/plate.  That will add up rather quickly!

Try craigslist, OH had quite a few pieces for sale, as did PA or eBay.
