I found my new favorite apple.  It's the Ginger Gold!  I love them.  I had my first one this past weekend and it's the best apple I've ever tasted.  If you get a chance and you have never tried one, try one now.  They will only be available to pick for another week.

They are not related to the Golden Delicious.  Ginger Gold is a tangy, sweet delight.

Happy Fall.

I have never heard of them.  They sound like they would taste good.  ~Dan~

The very best apple I have ever eaten is a Carousel- and Corrals are very

good also.  Ginger Golds are good.  Did you find them in a supermarket or at an orchard?

Ooo...they sound yummy! I've never heard of them either. We have 18 apple trees here, two pear and two walnuts. Next spring they are all getting a good haircut so I can get a good crop going. They are a little nasty this season. I may be able to salvage some though. Nothings been done with them in years, from the previos homeowner, so I want to give them lots of TLC

We went apple picking over the weekend.  So much fun!!  The only varieties that were available right now are the Ginger Gold, Gala, 20oz, Autumn Crisp and MacIntosh.  We will go back in October for the Granny Smith, Fugi, Crispin and Cortlands.  These are just our favorites, there are so many more available.

I'm in the upstate New York area.  They grow 40 different varieties up here.  I don't think we grow Carousel or Corral.  I never seen them up here, so I've never tried them.  I love trying new apples, and I'm glad I tried those Ginger Golds.  I love them!

Hey- I just got some Rustic Pear apples- yum!!!

Pink Ladies and Cameos are good too- and Nuttering (I think that is the name).

We had apple crisp last night- with vanilla bean ice cream.  UUUUMMMMM!!!!

Do you go to a pick your own orchard?  Had any apple cider?

Donna- ask your orchard if they know of those varieties.  Carousel is a sport.

I remember years ago when I was at a workshop at West Point, I explored

around the area.  I seem to remember New Paltz having orchards?

Apples are so much better when they are picked ripe- but then isn't every fruit or vegetable?

Oh I agree Deb.  Pickin fresh is the best!  I have a list of the apples that they grow and the Carousel wasn't on there.  I'll have to try one of the other orchards around here.  I would love to try them.

I wish I was there to have a taste of the Apple Crisp with you.  YUM!!

Mare,  Check with you local co-op about what to do about your trees.  I think when a tree gets too old, they don't produce well anymore and even trimming them won't help.  The orchards replace their older trees around here all the time.  But, I'm not sure how old they are when they do it.  I love to buy the apple wood for the fireplace.  It smells so good!

Guess that is something I need to look for here in OK.  Gala has been my favorite of the ones offered here.  Guess we are not in the apple regions and depend on farmers getting them to our areas.
