I've heard about these groups on other forums & would like to start one here if there is interest.
Anyone wanting to participate would send me their name, mailing address, & email address via PM. Each person participating would then be emailed a list with the names & addresses sent to me. This way, when someone is having a bit of a rough patch in their lives, if you so desire you can refer to your list & send them a little card or note to brighten their day. No one will know you've done anything unless the recipient of your kindness mentions it publicly, but for the most part it will probably be just between the two of you.
I hope a lot of you will want to do this. It is always nice to do random acts of kindness : )

Okay ... I had a question about this "group" & thought I should do another post in case others were wondering this as well. By joining you are not obligated to send something to someone every time they post that they sneezed when they got out of bed that morning or some such thing. You are not obligated to send something to someone at all! This is just an "if you want to" thing ... cases where sure, you can post a note of sympathy &/or encouragement on the forum for someone when they are overwhelmed by life, but this "group" would just be for those times when you feel like taking it a step further might really make this person's day. I know there have been times when I've read a post & I've thought "Oh, I wish I could send her a card to lift her spirits a little bit" ... or a little box of chocolate, or a little knickknack type of thing, etc.
You can send whatever you want to send ... a little card or a little gift if you so choose ... anonymously if you want to. But again, you are not obligated to send anything to anyone ... & no one is going to "expect" you to send something to them at any time. This will be just something that you do, if you choose to do it, that will remain between you & the person you send to unless you or she posts about it on the forum ... but really it should all be done "quietly" & remain just between the two of you.
Ideally I would be able to gather everyone's name & address & email address who is an active member on the forum (the email address would be for me only ... I would not share this on the address list) so there would be no limitation on who you could send to ... & maybe I should've posted things this way instead of calling this a "group" which might give people the wrong idea? Maybe the word "group" has a obligatory ring to it? If so, perhaps I should scrap this post & start anew just asking for everyone to send me their name, address, & email address for this purpose.

Shirlee, I think that's a great idea. There has often been times I wished I had someone's "real" address on here. We would also need there "screen name" so we could know exactly who was who. (You might have said that in your post and I might have missed it)

Shirlee, I too, think this is a great idea! I have often wanted to send something to encourage someone here, but I never thought to copy the addresses when the swap box was going around. I SHOULD have, but just wanted to get it on it's way. Count me in on this one, I think you have my info.

Count me in on this one also! What you are talking about is a guide which can be consulted when/if you wish to send a note to someone via US mail. I had a request for someone's address from someone else on here- I did not feel entirely comfortable doing it- but I gave out the address anyway. Anyone who has tough times needs all the encouragement and upbeat little surprises coming her/his way possible. I have several individuals' addresses from the Autumn Swapbox list.
There are days when just running into an old friend or hearing from a new one is just what you need!

DK ... Needless to say, I couldn't agree with you more. There are times when just running into an old friend or hearing from a new one is just what you need!
The group is getting a slow start. I have less than 10 who have shown an interest thus far & I'm not quite sure how long to wait before I compile & share the list. I think this is going to need to be an ongoing invitation with notifications being sent when new people are added. I think it will be nice to get the list done & sent before Thanksgiving though.

You could probably update the list for each person who is in this as time goes on for those that join late.

I will probably keep this initial invitation open until the end of next week or the beginning of the following week. Of course it will be an open invitation but I will create the first name & address list at that time. I'll post here when I'm about to do that & when I email the lists.

I am sending everyone here today alot of big hugs! (via the computer and my supersonic power vibes) LOL! Hope you all can feel them! I just think you guys all are tops here! I'm a bit slow moving this morning "The old gray mare ain't what she used to be"! My poor old body is beat! Gotta get to the hardware store, poor DH ended up working 13 hours, so I'll be getting stuff while he sleeps a bit.

Two people have had a problem opening up the attachment I sent in my email earlier today with the names/addresses of everyone in this group. I decided to go ahead & resend the list in an email rather than in an attachment just in case others end up having the same problem. I use Word 2007 which I understand is not the best version. Sorry for any problems : )

I would like to join too!
Too bad you all don't live around me. I would have a lot of come as you are parties where I would call you up and you would have so much time to get over to my house. Some of the best times have been early in the morning when I call up my friends and they come over wearing pj's, nightgowns, curlers in the hair. Whatever your wearing or not at the time of the call you have to come over in.
Whom ever has the turn to host that month provides a hearty meal, usually breakfasts.
Each month my friends from years ago and I have slumber parties. We lifelong friends get together and have a big old party just like we did when we were kids and teens. Our husbands think we are nuts but we have lots of fun.

What a fun time you & your girlfriends have! Apparently you haven't strayed too far from where you grew up : ) John & I have moved around a lot & I really miss "being home" at times : )
